In the early morning hours of October 9, 1779, the Battle of Savannah occurred on the current grounds of Coastal Heritage Society’s Tricentennial Park. The battle was one of the bloodiest of the American Revolution, where approximately 800 troops died or were wounded. On Wednesday, October 9th, 2024, the Society, our friends, donors, patriotic organizations, and community leaders will follow in the footsteps of those who fought that day 245 years ago.
On behalf of the Coastal Heritage Society, we invite you to attend the 2024 Battlefield Memorial March to honor those who fought, fell, and sacrificed for our freedom. The event will include a ceremonial march on the path of the allied attacking columns, followed by a dedication of stones and a presentation of wreaths to commemorate the fallen soldiers.
On Wednesday, October 9th, participants will meet at 8:30 AM in the Savannah History Museum parking lot at 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The march will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and proceed down West Boundary Street and along Louisville Road, concluding with a ceremony at Battlefield Memorial Park.
A light brunch will be available for the event attendees following the ceremony.
Individuals and organizations are invited to bring a wreath to be presented during the ceremony. Please contact me to RSVP for this event and notify me whether you or your organization want to bring a wreath. I can be reached at dmccall@chsgeorgia.org or (912) 944-7457.
I appreciate your consideration, and we look forward to hosting you in October.
Sincerely,
--
